About Us

Tatertot—that’s me. I’m a healthy, happy, fat feminist who loves to cook, craft and create. I’m a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. I don’t finish everything I start but I have fun with everything I do. I collect hobbies, I guess you could say. I write, paint, play guitar, knit, sew, make jewelry, do paper crafts, get involved in politics and repurpose things. I’m conscious of my impact on our natural world and my cooking and crafting are an effort to learn how to live a simpler, sustainable life. I don’t always do everything I can, but I’m working on it.

Likes: Cheese, bagels, onions, Italian fare, green peppers, asparagus, white meats, tomatoes, garlic and did I mention cheese?
Dislikes: Mushrooms, seafood, chocolate and anything with BBQ sauce or Ketchup on it.

The Pickle—that’s my husband. He’s a genuine, honest, witty and hilarious guy who loves being with people—family and friends. He’s the kind of guy you can count on for everything. He’s got a crazy green thumb but he primarily uses it for propagating gigantic, space-sucking plants like this one:

He loves to play games, be they board games or tabletop roleplaying games.  He’s also committed to living a simple life. And here’s the big secret…the Pickle can cook! You’ll rarely see his handwork on this blog because he guards this skill with great care. He seems to have some troubles with the multi-tasking required to put a meal together but if you leave him alone with a skillet full of food and some spices, crazy things happen.

Likes: Chocolate, catfish, BBQ, bacon, red meat of any kind (elk, beef, buffalo, etc), tilapia, pasta, fajitas and red beans and rice
Dislikes: Cheese, mushrooms, shrimp, casseroles, anything creamy, eggs

J-BugThe Pickle and I have not yet procreated. In the meantime, we do lavish ridiculous amounts of attention on our dog. J-bug is our german shepherd/golden retriever mix that we rescued from a local no-kill shelter. She’s sweet and loving but has some fear aggression that we’re working on. She’s also smarter than most people I know.

Likes: peanut butter and good-girl meals.
Dislikes:
how little people food she gets.

What we’re not: We’re not experts about food. We don’t claim to be gourmet chefs. I’m not gunning for a cookbook here. The recipes I share either come directly from other places on the internet, in which case I will share my sources, or they’re pieced together using multiple recipes. We’re just regular people whose lives revolve around food because we love it, because it brings people together and because it’s the cornerstone of our lives.
