Social Nomming: Picasso’s Cafe on Paseo

When the votes were tallied it was almost unanimous. The gang headed to one of our favorite spots: Picasso’s on Paseo.

This fairly new spot replaced a beloved OKC restaurant, Galileo’s, which went out of business last year. I personally think Picasso’s is exactly what the Paseo District needed. This small stretch of art galleries here in the center of the city already has a young, hipster hang-out called Sauced and a more upscale dinner spot, the Paseo Grill.

Picasso’s situates itself perfectly between the two, serving incredibly fresh, unique but accessible dishes for a more than reasonable price.

Each time I’ve gone, I’ve been swayed by the pan-seared chicken in a creamy bacon sauce with fresh sauteed asparagus or the grilled cheese sandwich made with whatever gourmet cheeses are on hand for the week. Yet, each time I’ve eyed the prosciutto, bleu cheese and fig pizza and talked myself out of it.

I mean, figs on a pizza? Figs are known to have one of the highest sugar content of any fruit. So how could this be good on a pizza? By pairing it with a good, salty prosciutto and strong bleu cheese, that’s how!

Before we ordered, I declared to everyone that I was finally going to try it. When I dared to ask the waiter what sauce base was used, Danielle promptly scolded me for even questioning my order. Being thusly prodded, I ordered it. And I LOVED it.

The figs were unbelievably subtle and perfectly paired with the prosciutto and neither out shined the cheese and the sauce. It was still a pizza, rather than simply a vehicle for unique toppings.

Piccasso’s is one of those places where even the most mundane dish is a little different and delicious. Pickle’s club sandwich looks amazing!

Since I helped myself to two Bitburgers (a wheat beer), I skipped dessert, but the Pickle ordered the wonderful chocolate ganache with fresh raspberry sauce and the house whipped cream. It was too chocolaty for me, but Pickle and the Bonster enjoyed it!

Danielle ordered the beignets which were way more my style. The strawberry sauce and whipped cream were incredible and if I closed my eyes, I could pretend I was back in Nawlins!

If you haven’t checked this place out, it’s definitely worth it. You’ll want to keep coming back to try all the fabulous options!

Hee hee, nicknames rule! Hey, we were just talking about giving Humble Pie up in Edmond a try and I said that we should coordinate with you so that you can join us! Email me if you have any weeks coming up that would work for you!

Picasso’s is so awesome! Part of what I like about them is that they have a lot of GOOD foods that are simple enough for me to guesstimate the carbs. At other non-chain places (which rarely have nutrition guides), I’m stuck with something boring like baked chicken and vegetables unless I want to risk crazy blood sugar results.

That’s awesome! They definitely have a singular ability to take common foods and make them uncommon! Glad it adds some nice variety to your eating out options!

OH! On the topic of foodie nicknames, I was thinking of Sugarsnap. :)

Love it! Although it does remind me of someone’s Quelf nickname…..which shall remain unspoken, since we’re family friendly around here. LOL :)
